A young drug dealer was caught red-handed by a police drone on Saturday evening in Heist-op-den-Berg, Antwerp Province, local police said on Monday.

The drone belonged to law enforcers from Antwerp, who had gone to lend a hand at the Hestival.

During the event, Antwerp police officers noticed two young people hiding in the car park of the social welfare centre in Heist-op-den-Berg. When a local team approached, one of the youngsters immediately fled. However, an alert citizen blocked his path, enabling the officers to arrest him. The second young man was also arrested.

In all, the police found 12 grammes of cannabis and €165 on one of the two young men - the suspected dealer - as well as a quantity of drugs on the suspected buyer. The boys are aged 16 and 17.

The citizen who assisted the police continued on his way after the incident. The law enforcers are inviting him to make a statement. “We thank him in advance for his quick reaction,” the area police said.
