The investigating judge in Antwerp has arrested a 30-year-old Belgian and a 29-year-old Dutchman after they were picked up in the port area on Monday evening.

The arrests were reported by the Antwerp Public Prosecutor’s Office as part of a large cocaine haul. The intercepted batch of drugs consisted of as much as 7 tonnes of cocaine.

Customs and federal judicial police found the drugs in a container at Quay 1333. Moments later, a man presented himself with a truck to pick up the container, along with a passenger. Police picked up the two for questioning, and found a loaded handgun in the truck cabin.

The two are suspected of importing narcotics and possession of illegal firearms. The investigating judge kept them in pre-trial detention after questioning.
