Belgian firm wins 1st prize in European competition for innovative start-ups

Belgian start-up Matvision has won international acclaim for its smart sorting systems in the recycling industry.

The company won the top prize in the ‘Raw Materials’ category at a competition for innovative European start-ups organised by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

Matvision’s technology enables users to sort waste utilising a combination of high-speed sensors, artificial intelligence and robotics, which earned the start-up a cash prize of €10,000.

“In the coming months, our goal is to secure the required funding to support the launch of our first product, designed specifically for metal waste processing,” the Matvision team announced.

Over 100 innovative start-ups were called to the grand finale of the EIT’s Jumpstarter competition, held in Athens. Fifty ‘deep-tech’ innovations across nine categories were presented.

A panel of experts finally rewarded 27 companies that could potentially help Europe tackle some of the planet’s most pressing issues.
