Belgian railway company SNCB will be increasing its fares by 5.9% from 1 February.
The almost 6% rise takes into account the changes in the consumer price index, the company specified.
Regulated fares (Student and Standard Season Tickets, the Standard Ticket and the 2nd Class Senior and Youth Tickets, as well as the ticket with the Intervention Majorée reduction) will be indexed by 5.9%.
Non-regulated fares (such as the Youth Multi, Standard Multi and Local Multi) will also be increased by that same amount.
However, the prices of the City Pass in Antwerp, Ghent, Charleroi and Liège and the bicycle supplement remain unchanged.
In October, the Rail Passenger Advisory Committee recommended that the indexation be postponed "because the service has deteriorated".

The planned 72-hour strike from Monday 29 January to Thursday 1 February on the Belgian railways was suspended by the CGSP/ACOD railway union.
The union and the Belgian railway management are engaged in negotiations, with an aim of addressING outstanding disputes. The issues have involved matters concerning staff welfare, employment, recruitment status, and ensuring a quality "viable service for passengers."
