Vincent van Gogh’s painting Head of an Old Peasant Woman in a White Hat will be up for sale at the upcoming TEFAF, the annual Maastricht Art and Antiques Fair.
The oil painting on canvas and panel measures 63 cm by 48 cm and was likely painted in 1884.
This work, being offered by an undisclosed American dealer, is from when Van Gogh resided in the Dutch village of Nuenen. It was during this time he painted The Potato Eaters, which also portrays similar peasant figures.
Head of an Old Peasant Woman in a White Hat demonstrates, according to the organisation, how adept Van Gogh was at capturing “both the likeness and essence of his models." He depicted the woman using “thick brush strokes."
TEFAF will welcome guests from Friday 9 March. The Maastricht Fair will host 270 exhibitors from 22 countries, with 18 making their debut.
