A unique collection of original Banksy works will show at one of Brussels' most prolific art fairs. The exhibitor will sell several pieces, with the proceeds going towards humanitarian projects in Gaza and rebuilding schools in Ukraine.
This year marks the second edition of the Antica Fine Art Fair in Brussels. Following the success of the Antica Namur Fine Art Fair, the organisers decided to take the concept to the Belgian capital. Visitors will find an eclectic selection of artworks, from old master paintings by the exhibitor Jan Muller and Epoque Fine Jewels to antique furniture and sculptures, many of them rare objects.
The Brussels fair will also showcase pieces from the last two centuries. Undoubtedly one of the highlights of this year's fair can be discovered at Marc Pairon's stand. The Aartselaar-based art expert and author will display and sell a unique collection of original works by Banksy, one of the most popular contemporary artists.
"Marc is an expert on Banksy and is close to the artist, which makes his attendance so special," Diane Kervyn, Director of Antica Brussels, told The Brussels Times. "We think this will attract people who maybe wouldn’t normally consider coming to the fair as many people know and admire his work."
Limited editions of the anonymous contemporary artist's works that have been acknowledged by him are extremely rare and highly coveted, which is why this is a particularly unique appearance at Antica. "This brings another dimension to the fair and will cause a buzz because it's something new and exceptional."
Social commitment
The enigmatic British graffiti artist is by far the most-forged artist today, with many fraudsters seeking to capitalise on his fame. Counterfeits are sold for big money as so-called limited and numbered issues, with falsified certificates of authenticity.
There many more counterfeits online than available originals. But Pairon's stand at Antica will exhibit a range of authentic works. In line with Banky's social commitment, the proceeds from their sale will go directly towards humanitarian projects in Gaza and the reconstruction of schools in Ukraine.
The works on show will include more than 70 different, rare Wall Sections – Banksy-designed miniatures of the wall that separates the West Bank from Israel – some Banksy sculptures signed by the renowned Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour and authentic souvenirs created by Banksy for his Walled Off Hotel.
Limited edition postage stamps featuring a Banksy mural, created for Ukraine’s national postal service Ukrposhta in collaboration with the artist, will also be on show as well as art postcards signed by the management of Ukrposhta.
