The latest film by Belgian director Lukas Dhont film has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the best non-English language film category. "Close" centres around friendship and responsibility and has already received international acclaim.
It has been quite the year for Belgian director Lukas Dhont following the release of his second feature film. "Close" received a ten-minute standing ovation after its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May where it won the Grand Prix du Jury (the second most important prize); it went on to receive a number of awards at other international festivals and is now in the running for a Golden Globe.
The Golden Globe Awards are bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and celebrate excellence in both American and international film and television. The awards ceremony will be organised for the 80th time on 10 January 2023.
Dhont's film follows the close friendship between two young boys; the director drew on his own past and tells the story of two 13-year-old boys: Léo (played by Eden Dambrine) and Rémi (Gustave De Waele).
The director represents Belgium in the best non-English language film category, where it will take on "Im Westen nichts Neues" (Germany), "Argentina, 1985" (Argentina), "Decision to Leave" (South Korea) and "RRR" (India).
