Belgium has pledged to back a resolution recognising Palestine as a full member of the United Nations, according to Belga News Agency.
This announcement was made by Belgium's Foreign Affairs Minister, Hadja Lahbib, during a meeting with Riyad al-Maliki, special envoy of the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.
The vote will take place later this week, on Friday 10 May. Lahbib stressed the importance of the European Union not missing this historic moment.
"Belgium wishes to co-submit and support this resolution," stated Lahbib, affirming the country's commitment to making history. This is "a first important step on the road to peace," she added on social media.
