The Azerbaijan Ambassador to NATO and his wife were attacked and robbed on Avenue Louise on Tuesday morning.
The couple were reportedly walking along Avenue Louise when they were assaulted by two individuals following them, according to Belgian media Het Nieuwsblad.
One of the suspects brandished a firearm and struck both the ambassador and his wife on the head. The wife bled heavily in the aftermath of the attack. Two Rolex watches worth a total of €90,000 euros were stolen.
Following the incident, the couple was taken to the hospital for a check-up.
The Brussels Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that an investigation into the incident had been launched, but declined to provide further comment. The authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the victims.
