Police officers caught a drug dealer in action in Brussels on Monday by chance, as the young man was initially stopped for riding well above the speed-limit on an e-scooter and later confessed to dealing cannabis.
The drug dealer was caught in a "very clumsy way" on Monday 5 August, reported the City of Brussels/ Ixelles police zone. A patrol from Neder-over-Heembeek's local police force noticed a person riding an e-scooter in Rue François Vekemans at an unusually high speed.
"The patrol drove behind the e-scooter whose driver appeared to be reaching speeds of around 70 kilometres per hour," the police statement read.
The inspectors pulled over the suspect and immediately detected the odour of cannabis. Upon realisation he had been caught, the young man "immediately" handed them a bag containing about 100 grams of cannabis. He added that he was on his way to a buyer and that he also had drugs at home.
The local criminal investigation department was called in and, together with the dog brigade, searched the young man's home in Vilvoorde, just outside of Brussels. "There, inspectors found another 1.149 kilograms of cannabis, €1,600 in cash, a precision scale and a lot of packaging material."
The suspect, who already had a record for three similar offences, was made available to the public prosecutor after questioning. "He will have to answer to the French-speaking correctional court in Brussels," the police zone concluded.
