The Walloon Brabant province on Thursday evening approved an additional €1.5 million to create and standardise nursery places.
This will top up the €1 million fund already designated as a part of the Province’s ‘Early Childhood’ project. In total, 342 childcare spaces will be created, both in public and private facilities.
The executive regional body has emphasised the importance of extending this support to both private and public childcare organisms, as well as to families. Elevating the ‘Early Childhood’ project fund to €2.5 million is seen as a priority to meet the high demand in Walloon Brabant.
"The budget will enable the creation of 342 nursery places and the standardisation of 1,711 childcare environments for the wellbeing and safety of children," the Province announced. Standardisation initiatives include works to secure outdoor spaces, install air conditioning, portals, fencing, and sun protection.
Of the 342 nursery places, 158 will be in public facilities while 184 in private ones. The standardisation of childcare environments impacts 834 public structures and 877 private ones.
