The number of nights booked in tourist accommodations through online platforms such as Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group, and TripAdvisor reached 208.8 million in the European Union in the second quarter of 2024.
This marks a 16.2% increase compared to the same period last year, according to statistics published on Thursday by the European statistical office, Eurostat.
April saw a slight drop, year-on-year, in the number of nights booked, down 1.8%. However, the trend was significantly reversed in May, with a 31.7% increase and continued in June with a 17.8% rise.
Malta recorded the highest increase in online bookings in June 2024, registering a 45.8% rise compared to June 2023. Lithuania (+28.1%) and Sweden (+27.4%) followed closely behind.
Belgium had the smallest increase in June, at just 2.6%. It was outpaced by the Netherlands (+3.3%) and Slovenia (+6%).
