Bpost is currently testing a new system that will send package and label-free post via a new locker system.
The national postage service announced the launch of the pilot scheme on Wednesday. The new system launched in Antwerp on Monday and aims to reduce environmental damage and simplify the postage experience.
The shipping option is exclusively available on the 'My Bpost' app. Customers can send products without labels and packaging, provided the shipment is made to and from and a Bpost parcel locker.
For the moment, the project will be tested in Antwerp using more than 30 lockers around the province. The aim is to expand this new shipping option across Belgium within the year.
"This innovation supports the growth of the circular economy and the increase in transactions between individuals on platforms like Vinted or 2ememain," Bpost stated. "This purchasing method is not only good for the environment and the planet, but also for the wallet."
Doing away with packaging such as cardboard boxes, adhesive tape and printed labels is expected to make the customer experience easier. The offer is also cheaper than previous systems: items weighing up to two kilogrammes will cost €3.99 to deliver between two lockers located in Belgium.
The Bpost network currently includes 1,260 parcel lockers, with capacity increasing by 40% in 2024. The postal company plans to double this number by the end of 2025, reaching 2,500 lockers with a total capacity of 150,000 parcels at one time.
