Three fans were arrested on Sunday afternoon ahead of the Beerschot-Antwerp football match in the Kiel district of Antwerp.
"They were administratively arrested for possessing fireworks," said police spokeswoman Kim Bastiaens.
With both teams calling Antwerp home, the derby is considered high-risk for police. Consequently, Antwerp supporters’ buses were thoroughly checked, and random searches were conducted as fans entered the stadium.
On Saturday evening, police were called to a potential confrontation between Beerschot and Antwerp supporters in the city centre.
"There were no incidents, but we did arrest one person for disturbing public order. That person has been banned from the stadium and will not attend the match," added Bastiaens.
The game ended with the two Antwerp teams sharing the spoils at 1-1.
