At least two people have died following cosmetic injections administered by unqualified individuals, according to the Royal Belgian Society for Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery (RBSPS).
In recent years, dubious clinics have emerged where botox or filler injections are given by unqualified people, warned RBSPS plastic surgeon Steven Colpaert.
Colpaert stated that improper injections can cause necrosis of the lip or nose or even blindness. He added that if filler is injected into a facial vein connected to a vein in the brain, it can cause a blood clot leading to thrombosis.
The two deaths linked to these procedures were previously unknown, reported Het Nieuwsblad.
Colpaert confirmed that one death occurred two years ago in Brussels and another five years ago in Antwerp. He suggested that there are likely other unreported incidents.
