A 14-year-old was fatally stabbed in Paris on Friday after refusing to hand over his mobile phone to two minors aged 16 and 17, who were taken into custody, the Public Prosecutor's Office said on Saturday.
"As the young boy was leaving his football training shortly before 20:00, two people demanded his phone," the same source said. After refusing to hand it over, the victim was violently stabbed in the shoulder, a police source and the Public Prosecutor's office said. "His friend performed first aid and helped identify the attackers," added the Public Prosecutor.
Two minors, born in May 2007 and August 2008, living in the 14th arrondissement, were arrested and taken into custody.
The victim lost consciousness at the scene of the attack and had to be resuscitated twice before being taken by the ambulance service to Necker hospital with a life-threatening prognosis, according to the police source. "Despite medical treatment, the victim was pronounced dead at around midday on Saturday."
The investigation, initially opened for "attempted homicide of a minor under the age of 15 and extortion with a weapon", is now focusing on "extortion followed by death, a crime punishable by life imprisonment."
According to the Public Prosecutor, "the two minors arrested were already known to the law." One had been the subject of a judicial educational measure in December 2023 for acts of theft and extortion.
They had both been brought before the courts on 30 October 2024 for acts of theft committed with violence, and were forbidden to have any contact with each other.
