Two lecture halls at the University of Liège will reopen to students on Monday just over a year since refurbishment works began, announced Rudi Cloots, adviser to the chancellor for infrastructure.
A budget of €2.7 million was allocated for the renovation of the Kurth and Wilmotte lecture halls, located at the XX Août site in the city centre. Half of the funding came from the European recovery plan, focusing on energy efficiency.
The renovations are part of ULiège's strategic plan and mark the beginning of the 'Learning Centre' project, which aims to consolidate study and resource spaces for students.
Built between 1958 and 1959, each lecture hall has a capacity of 310 seats and had become outdated.
The refurbishment aimed at enhancing comfort, efficiency and accessibility, alongside energy renovations. Expected energy savings are around 35%.
The Kurth and Wilmotte lecture halls will welcome students on 3 February for the second term of the 2024-2025 academic year.
