Approximately 30,000 visitors joined the city of Leuven in celebrating the 600th anniversary of KU Leuven over the weekend in what the university described as a "great success" and a "splendid festive weekend".
Leuven was dedicated to marking 600 years of the university, hosting around 100 activities at more than 60 locations across the city.
Scientific laboratories opened their doors to the public, attracting about 20,000 interested individuals.
Over 2,600 people participated in guided tours of the university’s heritage sites. More than 1,000 individuals used the Health Pass to map out their health status.
More than 13,000 attendees listened to one of the "600 Seconds" lectures. Around 1,500 revellers danced the night away during TD600 at Het Depot and Clubnight at the STUK arts centre.
One of the highlights was the light show at Ladeuzeplein, a gift from the city council to the university, which attracted about 20,000 spectators both Saturday and Sunday evenings.
The weekend festivities kicked off a year-long celebration for KU Leuven’s 600th anniversary, with upcoming events including the inauguration of a permanent art route, exhibitions, and the opening of the new Vesalius Centre.
