A woman walking her dog in a park in the municipality of Obourg in the city of Mons on Friday was attacked by three young individuals who, according to the local press, wanted to steal her dog.
The assailants sprayed the victim's face with an acidic substance that caused severe burns, according to the Mons-Tournai Public Prosecutor's Office.
The woman was able to call for help. After being treated on the scene, she was taken to the burns unit in Loverval. After treatment, she was able to return home.
An investigation into the attack is ongoing, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office. The perpetrators are still at large.
