A detachment of 12 Belgian, Luxembourgish and Dutch soldiers left Belgium on Tuesday to rejoin NATO's Kosovo Force (KFOR), the Belgian Defence Ministry announced.

Belgium's last participation in this peacekeeping mission in Kosovo was in 2010.

KFOR has been deployed in Kosovo since 12 June 1999, to ensure the stability of the region, following ongoing conflicts. Initially comprising 40,000 soldiers, it now includes around 4,500 soldiers.

Belgium will deploy an unmanned aerial system (UAS), a new reconnaissance drone resulting from a cooperation project between the Benelux countries.

This deployment, scheduled for 1 April 2025 to 30 April 2026, will be carried out according to a six-month rotation system. The team will be responsible for monitoring the agreed border between Serbia and Kosovo.
