A worker fell into the waste pit at the Brussels-Energy industrial site, part of the Brussels-Cleanliness group, on Friday evening around 20:00.

Emergency services were alerted, and the victim received immediate care. By the time of evacuation, the worker’s condition was deemed critical. Brussels-Cleanliness reported on Saturday that Brussels-Energy has not yet received further information.

The victim is an employee of a subcontractor working at the site. The accident occurred under undetermined circumstances in a technical zone at Brussels-Energy, located upstream from the energy recovery unit (incinerator), dedicated to the pre-treatment and management of nitrous oxide.

Adel Lassouli, spokesperson for Brussels-Cleanliness, stated, “The exact circumstances of the accident are currently being reviewed and verified.” The labour auditor visited the site, and an investigation is underway. Brussels-Energy says it is actively cooperating to clarify the causes of the incident and to take any additional measures needed to enhance worker safety. A psychological support unit has been established to assist all site workers.

Located along the canal in Brussels, Brussels-Energy is the energy recovery plant that incinerates household and similar non-recyclable waste to produce energy.
