Three out of five InterCity (IC) trains will operate on Tuesday due to a 24-hour strike organised by the various railway unions.
The strike will begin on Monday, 7 April at 22:00, and end the following day at the same time, the National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB) announced on Sunday.
Additionally, two out of five local trains (L and S) will run, and only one out of five peak hour trains (P) will be operational.
No trains will operate around Ottignies from Monday, 7 April 22:00 until Tuesday, 8 April 6:00, due to partially functioning signalling systems at Infrabel in Namur.
The affected lines include those between Namur, Gembloux, Ottignies and Watermael, between Ottignies, Wavre and Sint-Joris-Weert, and between Ottignies and Fleurus.
An alternative train service will be arranged based on available staff willing to work, and it can be checked online from Monday morning via SNCB’s travel planner on their website or app. Travellers are advised to plan their journeys carefully and frequently check the travel planner.
SNCB will continue to provide assistance for passengers with reduced mobility based on the alternative train service during the strike. For international rail traffic, passengers should consult the SNCB International website.
Rail traffic will also be disrupted on the other Tuesdays in April (15, 22, and 29 April) due to additional planned 24-hour strikes by the same unions, including a general strike scheduled for 29 April following the one on 31 March.
The strike is in response to proposed reforms by the new federal government, notably the plan to raise the legal retirement age, currently allowing some railway workers to retire at 55, and budget cutbacks imposed on SNCB.
