Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield, the US representative to NATO’s military committee in Brussels, has been relieved of her duties, multiple American media outlets reported on Tuesday.

The American press did not give a reason for the decision. The Washington Post mentioned in its headline "the latest eviction in Trump’s military purge."

Vice-Admiral Chatfield faced criticism from conservative lobbyists in the US for her comments supporting diversity since her NATO appointment in 2023. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly also criticised her.

NATO describes its military committee as the highest military authority and the oldest permanent body after the North Atlantic Council. It provides primary military advice to the North Atlantic Council and the Nuclear Planning Group and directs two strategic commanders.

In February, Donald Trump dismissed the six top officials of the US Department of Defense, including Lisa Franchetti, the first woman to lead the Marines.

On Friday, Timothy Haugh, the director of the American intelligence agency NSA, was fired.
