The Charleroi Public Prosecutor confirmed on Thursday morning that a man was detained after stealing an ambulance and causing an accident.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at around 22:30, when the suspect entered the emergency department of Marie Curie Hospital in Lodelinsart.
He then stole a SMUR emergency vehicle parked in the garage and fled towards Gosselies.
While driving, he caused an accident on a road in Jumet, near a roundabout.
The suspect was taken to hospital for treatment. "No other injuries have been reported," stated the Charleroi prosecutor Thursday morning.
The man, now in custody, will be interviewed by police later in the day, the judicial authority concluded.
