Tram and bus services in Ghent have been severely disrupted after a De Lijn bus collided with a tram on Saturday morning, resulting in five injuries.
The accident occurred around 11:00. when a bus from Zuidstationstraat hit a tram from Vlaanderenstraat. Five passengers were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
Both drivers were physically unharmed but left shaken, according to De Lijn spokesperson Ine Pieters.
As a result, tram and bus services are significantly disrupted. The Gent Zuid stop is out of service, and buses are being rerouted as much as possible.
Tram lines 1, 2, and 3 from Gentbrugge and Ledeberg now stop before Gent Zuid. Tram 2 from Evergem runs only to the Duivelsteen, while trams from Gent Sint-Pieters station stop at Kouter and then return.
“The police are on the scene handling the incident,” Pieters added. By 13:00, the vehicles had been towed away, and efforts are underway to restore normal service as quickly as possible.
