A drunken man jumped into the water at the city park near the Dendermonde station late Friday night.
The incident occurred shortly before 3:00. on Saturday. After an argument over his inability to pay his bill at a nearby café, the man fled the scene. He caused some damage before deciding to jump into the park’s pond.
The rescue operation was challenging for the fire brigade because the man resisted their efforts and threw objects at them. Despite the difficulties, they managed to pull him out of the water. He was taken to the hospital suffering from hypothermia.
The public prosecutor’s office in East Flanders was informed, but the matter will not lead to any immediate legal action. However, the man can expect at least a police report.
