Four people are in a critical condition following a traffic accident in Vorselaar on Saturday night, according to police.
The collision occurred just before 23:00 at the intersection of Sassenhout and Proosthoevebaan. A vehicle carrying four amateur footballers returning from their match was hit on the right side by another car with two passengers.
Two of the footballers had to be freed from their vehicle by firefighters, while a passenger in the other car was also trapped. One person was taken to the University Hospital of Antwerp, with the others transported to hospitals in Geel and Herentals.
The four footballers play for KFCE Zoersel, whose management expressed deep concern and stated that they will not comment further out of respect for the victims and their families. The club had previously lost a player in a serious traffic accident a few months ago.
Today’s scheduled match for KFCE Zoersel has been cancelled.
