People on their way to work seem to be taking up more environmentally friendly options, with a growing number leasing bicycles and electric and hybrid vehicles accounting for a larger part of company car fleets.
Human resources company Acerta has produced figures on 260,000 workers, which showed that a record number had leased a bicycle for work in the first half of 2022.
Although only 1.3% of Belgian employees have a company bicycle, the number is rising rapidly and is now double what it was in 2019.

Acerta also emphasised the financial advantage of leasing a bike, stating that "employees can benefit from a financial remuneration of up to €0.24 euro per kilometre travelled on a bike." 20% of workers currently receive an allowance from their employer if they commute to work by bike.
Furthermore, the number of hybrid and electric company cars has reached a record high of 11%, a clear increase from previous years. In 2021, 6.8% of company cars were hybrid or fully electric, compared to 2.9% in 2020 and barely 0.56% in 2019.
