The Federal Highway Police and local police zones will be conducting an integrated control action to both prevent and tackle distracted driving behind the wheel, specifically against the use of mobile phones while driving. The action began Thursday morning and will run until 20 November.
This will be the second time this year that the police will crack down on distracted driving in the hopes of reducing the worrying number of accidents it gives rise to. Using a mobile phone behind the wheel is one of the main causes of road accidents and road safety.
After remarkable results from the first edition in May, during which 2,445 offences were recorded and 503 withdrawn, the Integrated Police decided to once again control the roads for offences such as mobile phone use behind the wheel, this time for 4 days instead of 2.

The "distraction behind the wheel " action will run from today, Thursday 17 November (00:01), until Sunday 20 November 2022 (23:59), the police announced in a press release.
Police remind the public that drivers caught using their smartphone or any other mobile device with a screen while driving will be fined €174 (third-degree offence).
