Several members of the Extinction Rebellion environmental activist group staged a sit-in on Wednesday at a Cora supermarket store in Anderlecht in protest against animal cruelty, BX1 reports.
The sit-in began around 17:30 and involved a dozen or so members of the group silently holding placards in support of animal rights in the fish section of the supermarket.
One activist held a shopping cart full of vegetables with a sign reading "this is how we celebrate Christmas". Another was disguised as a giant lobster, in protest against the frequency with which the crustaceans are consumed in Belgium around this time of year.

The local police were eventually called to remove the activists after Cora's own security team proved unable to do so.
The protest is not the first time this year that Extinction Rebellion activists have held a protest in defence of animal rights in Brussels: in June, members of the group blocked entrances to a Viangro food plant to protest against the company's "greenwashing".
