Jean-Thomas Mayaka, an ex-employee in the Walloon arms manufacturer FN Herstal’s purchasing department, was dismissed from his position last week over serious misconduct charges. The former employee, now also a sports agent, is alleged to have embezzled 10 million from the public company, Sudinfo reported on Wednesday.
Internal checks conducted by FN Herstal brought to light a system of embezzlement which had lasted for several years. The company alleges that the web of corruption stemmed from Mayaka and his department.
Contacted by Sudinfo, FN spokesperson Henri de Harenne confirmed the information. The arms company is partly owned by the Walloon government, which controls a significant stake in the company.

“We have indeed identified a person who had set up a system of embezzlement and fake invoices. This person managed everything related to the supply of the company, in a broad sense. He was dismissed for serious misconduct last week and we filed a complaint directly with an examining magistrate in the process.”
