The Brussels Zaventem Airport is urging people to use public transport when travelling to the airport as parking spaces are full.
With many people on holiday now and in the coming weeks, Brussels airport is very busy. The 14,000 parking spaces at the airport are almost all occupied, according to the airport's website.
The airport expects that the situation will continue in the coming days.
If using public transport is not an option, the airport has asked people to reserve a parking space in advance through their website. If a person has reserved a spot and does not receive a confirmation email, then they should arrive at the airport half an hour earlier than their reservation.
The airport is prepared to offer alternative parking solutions if necessary. The parking spaces will be located further away from the terminal, but there will be free shuttle and bus services provided by De Lijn to the terminal throughout the day.
It is recommended by the airport to take a train, bus or taxi. However, it is important to note that the train and bus require a supplemental charge to get to the airport so those planning on taking public transit should prepare for an added expense.
Getting to the Brussels Airport by train costs a surcharge of €6.40 per single journey. Passengers using the bus are required to pay an additional €7.00 to get to or from the airport, regardless of owning a Mobib card or a STIB subscription.

Why pay additional fee? The Diabolo tunnel underneath the Brussels Airport was built and financed by a private investor in exchange for a 35-year long repayment. The tunnel connects Zaventem with Paris, Cologne and Amsterdam. It was built in 2012 and passengers have been paying an additional charge ever since.
Passengers who do not wish to use public transit are able to be dropped off in the drop off zone at the airport, which is located near the terminal.
In June 2022, The Brussels Times reported that the payment system is set to expire in 2047, but the Flemish and Walloon green parties (Groen and Ecolo) want to move the date forward.
More information about the parking situation and provided resources can be found on the airport's website.
