Ryanair pilots based at Charleroi Airport will go on strike on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 of September, Belga News Agency reports.

The strike, which was intentionally chosen to coincide with a meeting of Ryanair shareholders on 14 September, will be the fourth time in the past two months that pilots have taken industrial action at Charleroi.

Previous strikes on 14-15 August and 15-16 and 29-30 July led to up to 50 flights being cancelled each day.

Employees of the low-cost Irish carrier accuse it of harvesting bumper profits while failing to reverse a 20% salary cut implemented during the Covid-19 crisis.

They also allege that Ryanair has attempted to "blackmail" them by refusing to revise a previous agreement regulating employee rest days unless pilots' legal complaints against the airline are withdrawn.

The strike will not affect Ryanair's flights at Zaventem Airport, as the aircraft it uses there are not formally based in Belgium.
