The number of job seekers grew by 3,775 to a total of 89,935 in the Brussels-Capital Region in November, according to a report by Actiris published on Tuesday.
While there was a 4.4% rise in job seekers compared to June 2022, marking a 14.8% unemployment rate, a year-on-year contrast shows a 2.4% decrease (1,221 people) in benefit-recipients seeking work. Additionally, there has been an 8.1% uptick in youth internships, amounting to an additional 532 people.
Of the total 89,935 job seekers, 14,648 (16.3%) are registered with the Public Centre for Social Welfare (CPAS); this is a 14.6% annual increase.
Job-seeking figures for those under 25 have also risen by 9.2% (890 people) from last year. There has been a notable 5% surge for the 25-49 age category (2,684 people), and those aged 50 and over show a slight 0.9% increase (201 people).
Finally, Actiris recorded 8,559 entries into unemployment (6,187 re-registrations and 2,372 new registrations) compared to 9,917 departures in November. This represents a drop of 1,358 job seekers (-1.5%) compared to the previous month.
