Electric vehicle-sharing company GreenMobility has announced that it will no longer operate in Brussels and Ghent.

In a recent interview with Bruzz, Managing Director for Belgium Steve Van Avermaet explained that the decision was taken in order to ensure the firm's profitability. He added that the company, which allows users to hire its electric vehicles by the hour, will now focus on its operations in Antwerp.

"We are a company that wants to be profitable as soon as possible," he said. "That is why we will focus on the best market, and for GreenMobility that is Antwerp."

Van Avermaet also noted that users will still be able to begin journeys in Brussels so long as there are cars parked in one of the city's "hotspots", or designated parking spaces. However, trips will no longer be permitted to finish in the Belgian capital but must instead end in Antwerp or at Brussels Airport.

Founded in Denmark in 2016, GreenMobility continues to be active in several other European cities including Helsinki, Amsterdam, and Copenhagen. It arrived in Brussels in April 2021.
