A man convicted on Thursday afternoon by the Brussels Correctional Court fled immediately after his sentencing.
The man was one of the suspects in a case involving human trafficking and exploitation of prostitution. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
The public prosecutor requested his immediate arrest, and the court agreed. However, for reasons still unclear, no police were present in the courtroom to detain him.
The man seized the opportunity to escape, prompting a hunt throughout the courthouse.
“We can confirm that a man fled during his immediate arrest by the correctional court,” said prosecutor’s office spokesperson Stefan Vandevelde. “The man is actively being sought and has been flagged.”
