Another luxury hotel is coming to Brussels. The Standard will open it doors in May following successful projects in London and Ibiza.

The brainchild of The Standard's in-house team and Belgian firms Jaspers-Eyers Architects and Bernard Dubois Architects, the glitzy new hotel will be located in one of Brussels' revamped World Trade Centres in the Northern Quarter.

200 rooms and suites will be spread over 28 floors, and the creators boast of a lobby "perfect for both casual coffee dates and business meetings" and a "lively" bar and restaurant. There will even be a botanical garden on the ground floor: "a serene oasis where nature and the city meet".

Northern Quarter revamp

Forming part of the redevelopment project of the Northern Quarter, the hotel is "inspired by post-war modernist architecture and brings the rich history of the neighbourhood to life," according to its developers.

Its brutalist design "offers a fresh perspective on design, gastronomy and greenery within the city, amid the typical office buildings from the 1960s."

The rooms themselves have a refined woodwork finish and the circular patterns are inspired by 1970s American and Japanese postmodern architecture and 1930s Belgian design. Surroundings are a mixture of wood and textiles, and the carpet is wall-to-wall.

Long-stay suites will be available for the first time. Guests wishing to spend weeks or months in Brussels can reserve a 50 m2 suite on the top floor, with flexible contracts available for stays of one to six months.

Have a bite

There is more than one culinary option on offer at the hotel. On the ground floor, the Double Standard restaurant offers a mixture of American and Belgian cuisine as well as a generous selection of beers.

Up on the 29th floor, Lila29 is another bar and restaurant with "breathtaking" 360° views of the city.

The Standard hotels can also be found in New York, Miami, London, Ibiza, Bangkok, Hua Hin and Singapore. The group expects to open new establishments in Lisbon, Mexico City, Tulum and Pattaya.
