After two years of cancelled parades due to Covid-19, the Belgian Pride parade will return to Brussels on Saturday 21 May with up to 100,000 expected participants.

This year's theme will be 'Open', which is a call for "more inclusion, respect and equal rights for LGBTI+ people," said the organisation in a press release. "Let us open up to the other, to their respect, their consent, but also to culture and celebration!"

The organisation asks all participants to fly rainbow flags, "more than ever," in the streets of Brussels this year.

The Pride parade will start at 13:00 at the Mont des Arts, and will travel through the streets of Brussels-City, to arrive at the same place, where a number of LGBTI+ artists will perform.

In total, the organisation expects about a hundred associations, artists and partners in the Pride Village.

In the two weeks before the Pride parade marches through Brussels, various activities are also planned: on 5 May, a smaller kick-off parade will take place, passing Manneken Pis. The statue will be given a Pride costume for the occasion.

Between 5 and 21 May, several buildings in the entire Brussels-Capital Region will be lit up in rainbow colours.
