A number of security measures have been taken in the area around the European Council in Brussels, with traffic congestion expected on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 October during the European Summit.

The high-level EU meeting will be held this week at the European Council building on Rue de la Loi.

As at every European Summit, the public authorities have taken a number of measures.

A security perimeter will be set up by the police around the Schuman roundabout from 12 noon on Thursday. Traffic in this area will therefore be prohibited, except for emergency vehicles and those with an exemption, according to Brussels Mobility.

To enter the security zone, located at the Schuman roundabout, the first section of Rue de la Loi leaving from the roundabout, and Rue Froissart, pedestrians will need to have an access badge and show their identity card.

The neighbouring streets (rue Breydel, rue Archimède, avenue de la Joyeuse Entrée and avenue d’Auderghem) will be reserved for local traffic and parking will be prohibited.

The Reyers-Centre tunnel will be closed to traffic from 11:00 on 26 October.
