Amazon has made a bid to acquire TikTok, according to sources cited by The New York Times.

The US company aims to purchase the social media platform in its entirety. However, the bid amount remains undisclosed.

The offer comes just before a crucial deadline for ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company. ByteDance has until 5 April to sell its US operations or face a ban on the app in the United States.

The US Congress enacted a law to that effect last year due to national security concerns over the data of approximately 170 million Americans held by the platform.

Whether Amazon will successfully acquire TikTok is uncertain. Insiders informed The New York Times that various parties involved in the talks are not taking Amazon’s bid seriously.

The bid was reportedly sent via a letter to Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.

Amazon has declined to comment, and TikTok was not immediately available for a response.

President Donald Trump recently stated that he expects a deal for TikTok this week, noting several potential buyers.

Trump emphasised the strong interest in the platform and mentioned that he might consider extending the deadline if a deal is not reached.
