A man who had been declared unfit to drive by the police court in Halle caused an accident in the court's car park half an hour after being convicted.
The man appeared before the Halle police court on 14 February 2022, where, for reasons unknown, the police judge declared the man unfit to drive a car.
However, that did not stop the man from getting back into his car and immediately causing an accident in the court parking lot.
"You arrived here by car on 14 February 2022. At 09:10, my fellow judge declared you unfit to drive, which means you were not allowed to drive from the time of that ruling. And half an hour later, at 09:40, you do so anyway, with all the consequences," the police judge said.
The Public Prosecutor was there on the day of the incident and saw the accident happen, he told the man. "The judge then clearly explained to you that you were not allowed to drive. I was even there when he did his explanation."
In his defence, the man stated that he did not know that the police judge's ruling was effective immediately. Additionally, he also stated that he no longer hears very well.

As the man had been convicted 14 times in the past, the judge also wanted to impose a fine of €4,000.
However, when the defendant said he could not pay that amount, the judge gave him 80 hours of community service instead. The man must also surrender his driving licence for three months.
