Dutch police arrested 62 people over the weekend in connection with violence surrounding a match between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Amsterdam, including ten people residing in Israel.
The majority of those arrested live in the Netherlands, except for three individuals whose places of residence have not been identified. These figures were provided by Amsterdam's security coordination cell, which includes the police, the public prosecutor, and the mayor of the largest city in the Netherlands. Four people remain in custody.
A special team of police investigators has been created to identify other suspects involved in this bout of violence, which included antisemitic acts. The investigation is being conducted in collaboration with Israel.
"In the coming days, blurred images of the wanted individuals will be released. If these individuals do not come forward, clear images will be published. There is cooperation with Israel to allow witnesses to come forward there as well," the coordination cell said.
Dutch police leading the investigation are examining surveillance footage as well as videos filmed by witnesses.
Investigators are looking into the assaults on Maccabi Tel-Aviv supporters and also their behaviour, Dutch media report. Several testimonies report provocations by Israeli supporters, including hostile slogans against Palestine and other racist chants. Additionally, some Maccabi supporters burned a Palestinian flag in Dam Square and vandalised a taxi, Amsterdam police chief Peter Holla stated on Friday.
