French Transport Minister Clément Beaune on Wednesday floated the idea of imposing a “minimum price” for air tickets within Europe.
Speaking in an interview with French news magazine L’Obs, Beaune said he would convey the proposal to his EU colleagues “in the next few days.”
“Air tickets for ten euros should no longer be possible in the era of ecological transition," Beaune argued. "That does not reflect the cost to the planet.”
The French government is planning, in any event, to raise the so-called “solidarity tax” for all flights departing from France, and to invest the proceeds in the railway sector.
