The Kremlin announced on Sunday that the significant shift in US foreign policy towards Russia largely aligns with its own views.
The new administration is rapidly overhauling all aspects of its foreign policy, a move that largely coincides with our perspective, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a state television journalist in an interview recorded on Wednesday.
There is still much work to be done, as the entirety of bilateral relations has suffered enormous damage. However, if the political will of both leaders, President Putin and President Trump, remains, this process can be quite swift and successful, Peskov added.
Peskov made these comments on Wednesday, but they were only made public on Sunday.
Since taking office on 20 January, Donald Trump has significantly altered US foreign policy from that of his predecessor, Joe Biden, aligning more closely with Moscow. On Friday, he harshly criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a stunning televised confrontation at the White House, casting doubt on Washington’s continued support for Kyiv.
