RWD Molenbeek has been promoted to Belgium’s top-flight after winning the Challenger Pro League on Saturday following a 2-0 win against RSC Anderlecht II.
The result means that next season will see three clubs from Brussels compete in the Jupiler Pro League for the first since 1988, with Molenbeek joining Union Saint-Gilloise and Anderlecht. They won 1-0 against Anderlecht’s youth team in the second-division playoffs thanks to a goal from their striker Mickaël Biron.
This result also sees them clinch the Challenger Pro League championship, which concluded an eight-year rebuilding process for the club. RWD Molenbeek, under its current form, was created in 2015 by a group of investors who wanted to return Molenbeek to its former glory.

The original club from Molenbeek was R.W.D Molenbeek, which had made its name as the third biggest team in Brussels, before folding in 2002 due to financial issues.
Now named RWD Molenbeek, the club relaunched in 2015 in the fifth tier of Belgian football. Multiple promotions saw them edge closer to the promised land of the Jupiler Pro League, in which they are now set to compete.
