Twelve civilians have been killed in two days of Turkish bombardment of areas held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the north and northeast of Syria, a spokesman for the Kurdish-dominated SDF told French news agency AFP on Tuesday.

The bombings come amid fighting that has pitted the FDS against Kurdish groups in northern Syria since the end of November, despite US attempts to impose a truce.

According to spokesman Farhad Chami, "Turkish drones targeted a popular market in the town of Sarrine," in Aleppo Province, "‘killing six civilians and wounding 22" on Tuesday.

He added that Turkish artillery fire in two other areas had killed three people on Tuesday and another three on Monday, also civilians.

Protestant factions had launched an offensive against the FDS at the same time as a coalition of rebel groups led by radical Islamists had launched an offensive against President Bashar al-Assad's forces on 27 November.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) said that fighting between rebel groups and the FDS, as well as Turkish bombardments, had killed 521 people since December, including 56 civilians.

According to the UK-based NGO, which has a vast network of sources in Syria, 388 members of the Kurdish forces and 77 members of the SDF have died in the violence.
