US President Donald Trump unveiled the 'Gold Card', a $5 million permanent visa for the United States featuring his image, on Thursday.
"For $5 million, it could be yours," he told journalists aboard Air Force One.
"I'm the first buyer," added the Republican billionaire, noting that the 'Trump Gold Card' would be available within two weeks.
A similar programme, the EB-5, already exists for foreign nationals making significant investments in the United States.
However, according to Trump's administration, which prioritises combatting irregular immigration, the current programme is plagued by fraud and must be replaced by the Gold Card.
"Rich people will come to this country by buying this card. They will be wealthy, successful, spend a lot of money, pay a lot of taxes, and employ many people," the president stated in February.
He also suggested that the United States could sell approximately one million of these cards, or even more.
