A wildfire near Drunen in the Dutch province of North Brabant is under control but not yet extinguished.
The fire brigade continues to work on putting out the fire and preventing its spread as of Sunday morning. Drunen is located just over 20 kilometres from the Antwerp Noorderkempen border.
Despite progress, the fire brigade has not declared the fire as fully mastered. A spokesperson explained that more control is needed, as the ground in some areas remains very hot and could cause the fire to reignite. Firefighters are present in the area to ensure this does not happen. The affected area is approximately 600 by 700 metres in size.
Rainfall during the night from Saturday to Sunday has helped in bringing the fire under control. The Safety Region identified the Kanaalweg as the fire’s location. However, aerial photos show that the affected area is slightly away from there, within the Loonse and Drunense Duinen National Park.
