A man shot by police on Saturday at a metro station in Berlin has died, the public prosecutor’s office reported on Sunday.

The man was previously involved in a fatal stabbing incident.

The police shot the suspect after an altercation with another man at the Sophie-Charlotte-Platz station in West Berlin. The second man was stabbed and died at the scene. The police shot the alleged attacker shortly after. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital after being resuscitated on site. Despite emergency surgery, he was pronounced dead on Sunday morning.

Police and the public prosecutor’s office clarified in a press release that there is no evidence of an Islamist terrorist act. The suspect was a 43-year-old Syrian man, and the victim was a 29-year-old German man. Both individuals were known to the authorities.

The attacker reportedly stabbed the victim three times with a kitchen knife. The victim managed to exit the train carriage but died at the station.
