The Belgian branch of French charity Restos du Coeur aims to provide over 8,000 festive meals to disadvantaged individuals by the end of the year.

The charity announced on Monday at the launch of their fifth annual campaign: A Festive Menu for All!

Donors can contribute by purchasing one or more menus, which include a starter, main course, and dessert, for €10 each.

The association mentioned that an increasing number of people in Belgium are facing financial hardship, struggling to make ends meet each month. The demand for food aid has been steadily rising.

From January to the end of October 2024, a total of 1,351,676 meals were distributed. This marks an increase of 21,000 meals compared to 1,330,027 meals during the same period in 2023.

A month and a half ago, the Federation of Restos du Coeur in Belgium reported a budget deficit exceeding €400,000. Despite this financial shortfall, the organisation remains committed to continuing its mission.

Last year, the A Festive Menu for All! campaign provided 7,163 festive meals. This year, facing increasing demand, the 21 Restos du Coeur locations in Belgium aim to deliver over 8,000 menus—an 11.7% increase compared to 2023.

The association calls on both individuals and businesses, whether private or public, to support the initiative. More information can be found on their website.

Established in 1991, Restos du Coeur currently relies on a team of around 60 employees and nearly 500 volunteers, a decrease from about 100 employees the previous year.
